Intervention Taste

Updated: Mar 5, 2020

I wanted to do a taste experiment with some parents in the football club of my son, so I decided to bring with me 3 kind of jellies and share the stories that related to the flavours and ask them how do they experience the taste.

My jellies are:

Apple Ginger

Elderflower

Raspberry (pre-made)

1 - to give you strength and empowering

2 - to create excitement, revolutionary taste, uplifting

3 - cry, yearning, longing and missing of someone loved

I purchased the Raspberry jelly in the supermarket and tasted it before. It was what we call, red jelly. It taste like artificial red fruit flavour, something between strawberries, raspberries, candy, etc.

The other two I tried making it at home, several times, and thought that this time I was able to create the right taste and texture.

Apple ginger came out very good, flavour and texture-wise, the elderflower did not, the texture was very off so I decided not to take it with me for the experiment.

I approached two women and asked them if they are willing to participate in my experience, and they agree.

I offered them the jellies and shared with them 2 stories:

Apple ginger story:

After I experienced my hardship, I was shattered and was not able to eat almost anything for a few days, I felt I was getting weaker and that I should regain my strength so I can help myself and my family cope with our situation. I went to a healthy food and juice bar shop in my neighbourhood and ordered myself a large apple-orange-ginger juice. I drank it and felt I'm gaining my strength back and felt more ready to handle my day. For the next week or two, I went to the shop every morning and bought myself the juice, I felt I was feeling a little better every day and that I can gradually started to feel more normal and created a small new routine, that will allow my life to go back in track soon.

Red Jelly story:

This is a story from L, she has a memory about her having raspberry juice made to her by her beloved grandfather. She used to call is "Petel deluxe". Petel is the Hebrew word for raspberry. It was the perfect juice and it was made with love. It brings up memories of her relationship with her grandfather, that she misses very much (he died). She can't drink raspberries juice without crying, because this memory is so strong.

So I introduced my stories and asked them to taste the jelly.

C said she enjoys the ginger one, and her memory from it is that it fixes things. She remembers making these ginger apple base shakes to her family, to feel healthier and better, and add some nutrition values to their diet. She connect ginger to good health and better feeling.

The raspberries jelly or red jelly as she referred to it, connect to her to childhood flavours, she remembers she likes the red flavours, but her son, for example, prefer the green flavours. she experience the childhood flavours in a different manner through her children's eyes.

O said that the ginger tasted very sharp, she comes from the food industry so she was very focused on the flavour but she didn't feel any memory related to the taste.

The red jelly, on the other hand, brought her childhood memories as well. She doesn't like jelly.

Both said that the flavour was one component of the experience, and the texture was quite powerful as well. maybe a little overpowering the flavour.
