Interview with B

Updated: Oct 1, 2019

B M+2 London

B described 2 hardship that she had experienced during the past 5 years that they have been in London.

She moved here with her husband and her 4-month-old son so after she was accepted to a prestige university to pursue her doctorate.

Feeling guilty for initiating the move and not telling the university during the interviews that she was pregnant, B dived from maternity leave straight to a full-time student. From being a hotshot student she was one of many who needs to work hard to earn everyone respect while conflicting with guilt feeling of not spending enough time with her son. B suffered from what seems to be postnatal depression that excelled from the pressure she was into. During the first year, she felt her son was a little behind on his development but was rest assured by the GP that he was still fine. Throughout this year she was taking her son to nursery school one hour each way and felt it becomes too hard on her as well.

In school she was failing and received last chance to improve her results or else she will be expelled from her degree.

She felt it was all too much, and when her tutor realised she was facing a breakdown, she referred her to a psychologist for support.

Struggling with the complicated commute, they decided to move to another flat which she hated right away, she remembers the smell of the flat from the first time they went to see it.

She continued going to doctors and therapist with her son and finally was diagnosed on the spectrum. Shocked and overwhelmed by the news yet relieved to be able to diagnose. It was very hard for her to accept the news, she was living in the same flat she dislikes and the smell was part of the unfortunate situation she found herself in.

She felt she has to shift her focus to her son and make sure he gets the best diagnose and support he could get.
