We discussed your concerns about the scale of your project, which you compared to that of other students. It is important to remember that evaluation is not about comparative exercises in that sense, and in particular not about scale but about depth.
You have made good progress over the summer months in moving the project out of the sphere of interviews and raw data collection with your group of women. In terms of the “quilt” artefact, there is still a need to expand your role as a facilitator and researcher as well as crafter of the eventual piece of work. In practical terms this will involve seeking creative responses to the “in progress” elements of the quilt from the women involved, so that its creation is a reciprocal collective process in which the women’s cultural and emotional responses are embodied in the form and content of the piece.
I also suggested that the depth of the project will be enhanced if you can obtain and incorporate responses from people outside your initial group of women, who were chosen from your target demographic (for example, girls and young women from a different migrant demographic, or indeed non-migrants).
Please make sure that as well as recording progress and developments during the remaining weeks, you maintain a rolling up-to-date overview of the project and the new knowledge you have gained, so that you are in position to communicate it clearly and concisely, but comprehensively, in early December.
