CURRENT RESEARCH QUESTION: How can we develop a bespoke wide sensory experience for women that helps them cope and overcome hardship during relocation/migration.
PROJECT SUMMARY: (In approx 100 words describe what your project is) In my project I try to develop tools using sensory mediation, visual, sound and performance that can help women to handle and overcome hardship during relocation/immigration. Being a woman who immigrates from another country to London, UK, I’m experiencing ESL, alienation, loneliness, self-doubts, identity lost and such feeling like part of moving to a new place with my family. Adding to this complicated equation, we are coping with a hardship that shuffles our inner compass and forces us to develop a new resilience from this new imbalance.
YOUR CURRENT INTERVENTION (100 words max) In my current intervention, I’m creating a video of performance using a reversible shirt that metaphorically presents some of the emotions and feeling that are being experienced while coping with hardship during relocation/immigration period. I’m integrating these emotions from my personal experiencing and my conclusions from the interviews I did: I have interviewed 9 Israeli women so far that confide their hardship stories, their feelings, thoughts and pain from hardship during their immigration, how they cope with the hardship, if they were able to overcome, receive some help or gain more resilience.
WHO ARE YOUR KEY FEEDBACK RESPONDENTS/EXPERTS TO DATE?
(individuals, companies, or interest groups):
My key feedback respondents are individuals who share their hardship experience with me, and I’m
trying to develop some tools to help us cope and overcome these hardships. The background story
being the relocation and immigration stories can be relevant for companies, interest groups or
organizations that work in this field.
WHO ARE YOUR POTENTIAL GATEKEEPERS?
My potential gatekeepers can be art exhibitors to present my performance. For my advanced
intervention I want to reach out to groups and organization that support and educate immigrants
communities.
WHAT ARE YOUR KEY FINDINGS SINCE THE START OF UNIT 2?
(These can be a combination of primary and secondary research – 70 words max, please)
My key findings in my primary research: I interviewed 9 Israeli women who were willing to confide their hardship
during the relocation/immigration period. I was able to distinguish some feelings and emotions that occur for most of
the women and I’m trying to explore them and
WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT KEY ACTIONS?
(70 words max, please)
My next key actions:
Continue my research in more depth - conduct more interviews with women from different countries, and
establish cultural specific differences in methods and approaches,
Develop my ideas and methods or wide sensory experience for coping with hardships.
Start testing my idea with women who are willing to participate.
WHAT ARE THE STRENGTHS/OPPORTUNITIES IN YOUR PROJECT?
The strengths/opportunities in my project are to learn about problems and struggles that happened to women in
relocation, which is something that women do not always feel comfortable to share and try to find support for
them and empower them.
WHAT GAPS OR WEAKNESSES CAN YOU IDENTIFY IN YOUR PROJECT SO FAR?
I’m still in an early stage but I’m worried if I will be able to test and explore my test to a wider group of women.
